Give the Gift of Dental Hygiene This Mother’s Day

Blackburn shoppes dental - mother's day gift - dental hygiene

The age-old question, “What will I get mom for Mother’s Day?” is as relevant as ever this year. Don’t forget mom on May 13, 2018!

Over the years, you have made her dozens of cards, have sent her away to the spa and have purchased enough jewellery, candles and books to last a lifetime.

So what’s left?

Our team at Blackburn Shoppes Dental Centre has a new and unique idea for you…

This Mother’s Day, give mom the gift of dental hygiene.Throughout your life, mom has prioritized your dental health by booking your dentist appointments and reminding you to brush and floss your teeth before bed. But focusing on your dental health meant your mom sometimes made her own dental health the last priority. A great way to show your mom that you care is to focus on her smile.

One of The Best Mother’s Day Gifts: The Gift of a Healthy Mouth!

Now that your mom is thoroughly convinced that her dental hygiene is a huge priority, surprise her on Mother’s Day with a dental-themed gift. Create a gift basket that includes the following items:

  • A toothbrush, perhaps electric (we recommend Oral B)
  • Toothpaste
  • Floss sticks
  • Containers of floss
  • Mouthwash
  • Teeth whitening strips
  • Lip balm
  • “5 Dental Hygiene Tips for Mom” (See below!)

5 Dental Hygiene Tips For Mom This Mother’s Day

  1. Reduce stress. Everybody knows that reducing stress is beneficial to overall health, but eliminating stress can also significantly improve oral health. Stress can lead to teeth grinding and clenching, as well as promote canker and cold sores. Activities like yoga and meditation can also help mom to de-stress.
  2. Eat a well-balanced diet. Eat a wide array of healthy foods to promote great oral health. Make sure it is a diet rich in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants to help fight disease. Choose a diet that is low in sugars to eliminate cavities.
  3. Brush properly.  Brush gently away from the gums, twice a day and for two minutes each time.
  4. Floss! Another simple tip, but one that often gets avoided. In the chaos of the day, and especially during the nighttime routine, make sure to take the time to floss. Flossing helps eliminate cavities that build up in between the teeth, as well as gingivitis.
  5. Make time for dental appointments. This tip is the most important, and many moms are guilty of skipping this step. While moms make time for their kids to go to the dentist, often times it is at the sacrifice of their own dental visits. Moms should prioritize their own health by visiting their dentist every six months. Not only will they benefit from regular trips to the dentist, but placing an emphasis on the importance of dental hygiene will positively impact the kids.

Lastly, make sure your mom is booked in for a dentist appointment this week at Blackburn Shoppes Dental. Every mother or grandmother that comes into our office this week will receive a flower as a token of our appreciation.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there! Keep smiling!
