Are You Nervous?

Nervousness and hesitation can be common when visiting the dentist. Here at Blackburn Shoppes Dental Centre, we value your comfort, and we provide a variety of options to help relax and relieve stress for any nerve-wracking procedures.

Dr. Plant likes to care for nervous or anxious patients, whether they be children or adults.

When dealing with nervous patients, her number one rule is always approaching everything with transparency and providing comfortable surroundings.

She also provides her patients with insights every step of the way and creates calming treatment rooms with soothing music, TV, and sunglasses for harsh lights.

For some, this may not be enough to calm any predetermined nerves, so Dr. Plant will provide the option of Nitrous Oxide, often referred to as laughing gas. Nitrous Oxide is the most commonly used sedative that is safe and effective, and easily administered through a small face mask.

Dr. Plant and her team recommend you share your anxiety when you contact us here at Blackburn Shoppes Dental Centre. If you’re tense or anxious, please let our dedicated team know. Having a discussion about your concerns will allow us to adapt the treatment to your needs.

Dental Anxiety is Not Uncommon

Some studies show that up to 40% of Canadians experience some level of dental-related fear and millions avoid dental care because of it. If you fear dental work, we want you to know that making you feel comfortable and safe at our office is our priority.

Dr. Plant is here to help you!

We have listed a few popular methods for easing anxiety in the dental office:

Communication

Letting us know you are anxious is the best place to start. We would simply talk to you through the procedure and give you the most up-to-date information as possible. We will always keep you informed before, during, and after your procedure, ensuring that you understand what is going on and why we are doing it.

Listening to Music

With most procedures, the use of personal headphones and music is allowed. This is a great way to keep calm and pass the time while in the chair.

Oral Sedation

Depending on the nature of your procedure, various types of sedation may be available to you including oral sedation.

Taking Breaks

Let us know if you would like to take a short break during your treatment by signalling with your left hand.
