A dentist’s tools are of utmost importance when going along their daily work tasks. While they are hundreds of tools used in dental procedures, there are a few set of instruments that dentist’s use for almost every appointment! Let’s dive into the most used dentist tools and what they are for:

  1. The Mirror: Probably the least intimidating tool in the repertoire is the rounded mirror with a handle. This mirror allows dentist’s to view hard-to-reach areas of the mouth by redirecting light and magnifying the mouth and teeth for better viewing assistance.
  2. The Probe: The Probe is a metal rod with a very thin curved hook. This tool determines a few things, such as teeth hardness, levels of plaque and cavities. Dentist’s may also use this tool to clean along the gums to prevent plaque and tartar build up.
  3. The Drill: Yes, the drill is that noise making machine with that infamous whirr, but have no fear it’s completely harmless! The drill can be used in many dental procedures, most often to help fill cavities, smooth teeth, fix chips or remove hardened plaque.
  4. The Saliva Ejector: This curved tube acts like a vacuum in the mouth in order to suction out excess saliva, water or blood during dental procedures.
