Sedation Dentistry

Calm, Supportive Dental Care for Nervous Patients

We offer safe and personalized sedation dentistry options in Ottawa to help children and adults feel more relaxed and comfortable during treatment.

What is Sedation Dentistry?

Sedation dentistry is designed to help patients feel calm and at ease during dental procedures.

At Blackburn Shoppes Dental Centre, we understand that dental anxiety is real. Some patients feel nervous about specific treatments, while others may have had difficult past experiences. Our goal is to provide a supportive environment and, when appropriate, sedation options that make dental care more manageable.

We tailor sedation to your individual needs and health history, ensuring safety and comfort at every step.

Sedation Options We Offer

Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)

Nitrous oxide is a mild, fast-acting form of sedation that helps patients feel relaxed during treatment. It is inhaled through a small nose mask and wears off quickly after the procedure, allowing most patients to resume normal activities shortly after their visit.

This option is commonly used for both children and adults who experience mild to moderate anxiety.

Intravenous (IV) Sedation

For patients who require deeper relaxation, intravenous sedation is available through visiting surgeon Dr. Max Silver, who attends our clinic on a scheduled basis.

IV sedation may be recommended for more complex procedures or for patients with significant dental anxiety. Your medical history and treatment needs will be carefully reviewed to determine if this option is appropriate.

This Might Be Right For You If…

  • You experience dental anxiety or fear
  • You avoid treatment due to nervousness
  • You have difficulty sitting comfortably for procedures
  • You require a more complex or lengthy treatment
  • You would prefer additional support during your visit

If you are unsure whether sedation is appropriate for you, we are happy to discuss your concerns.

“Great experience for my toddler’s first trip to the dentist! It was a fun, welcoming, informative and he wasn’t scared or upset at all!”
