Our Dentists

Dr. Chantal Plant

Dr. Chantal Plant was born in Abitibi Témiscaming, Québec.

The oldest of three girls, Dr. Plant became passionate in the study of biology and health sciences as a result of her parents’ careers. Dentistry was a perfect fit for Chantal because she realized she could work in a field that combines both health and arts.

Dr. Heather Smith

Dr Heather Smith was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia and grew up just outside the city in Fall River. She attended Mount Saint Vincent University for her undergraduate degree and received her Bachelor of Science in 2003. Having an interest in dentistry that started from a very early age, she then went on to obtain her Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree at Dalhousie University in 2007.

Our Hygienists

Stéphanie

Stéphanie graduated from La Cité collégiale in May 2004 and started working at Blackburn Shoppes Dental Centre in October of the same year.

She has done voluntary trips with two organizations. One of these working adventures was with Dr. Plant in 2007. They travelled to Bolivia to provided dental care to patients in three remote villages.

Shiena

Shiena graduated from the Dental Office and Chairside Assistant Program Levels I and II at Algonquin College June of 2016. Upon graduating, she immediately started working at various dental offices within the city of Ottawa.

Melanie

Melanie graduated from the 3-year dental hygiene program at Algonquin College in April 2018 and has loved being a part of our great team at Blackburn Shoppes ever since. Melanie is a member of the College of Dental Hygienists of Ontario and the Canadian Dental Hygienist association

Our Assistants

Seble

Seble was born in Addis Aaaba, Ethiopia but moved with her family to Ottawa at the age of 7. She grew up in a large extended family with 2 brothers, 1 sister and lots of cousins. Seble describes their family celebrations, complete with nieces and nephews, like a “big, fat Greek wedding”.

Yuka

Yuka

Yuka graduated from dental assisting Level I and II at Algonquin College in 2018. Yuka thought long and hard about what she wanted in her job and career, as she was looking for it to be challenging, fulfilling and rewarding. She also loves working directly with patients and this is exactly why she chose to become a Dental Assistant.

Kelly

Kelly has been in the dental field for 30 years.  In her beginnings she had the opportunity to spend six months with a business coach learning all aspects of an everyday dental practice.  While being coached, she learned the foundation of owning a practice, managing a dental practice, and managing personnel.
